Announcing our next group trip: Freediving Eco-Retreat in Mexico

freediving trip

Group trip July 26th - August 2nd 2019 - FULL

NEW DATES ADDED 9th - 16th August 2019 - SPACES

Have you always wanted to learn to freedive but never found the chance? Always wanted to swim with whale sharks but never had the opportunity? Dreamed of being surrounded by passionate ocean-loving women but never knew them?

Now's your chance. This may be our strongest girl-power trip yet.

We had the pleasure of spending the last few months freediving in Mexico and meeting some of the most inspiring and positive ocean females ever and now we want to share this experience with you.

Freediving has the power to change lives, the feeling of diving without a tank is simply incredible, and there truly is no other place to do it quite like the cenotes of Yucatan. Alongside a group of empowering women Girls that Scuba will be taking a group of females and introducing them to freediving for the first time in one of the most magical places on earth... will you be joining us?

SSI Level 1 Freediving Course

The SSI Level 1 course is the first step in your freediving journey and we will be joined on this journey by sister team Amancay Freediving - an all female run freedive centre in Playa Del Carmen.

On this course you will learn the proper breathing techniques, familiarize yourself with diaphragmatic breathing and take a deep breath like you never have before. You will acquire proper skills and knowledge to partake in Freediving to depths of 20 meters in the most relaxed and safest manner possible. While also developing the skills necessary to train your body to be more efficient with oxygen, gain better respiration and muscle flexibility and learn new skills to take your freediving to the next level.

  • On this trip you will fully complete this course and become a certified freediver
  • Female instructors and all female students
  • No previous freediving experience is necessary
  • All equipment included
  • Freediving is all done in freshwater cenotes

Swimming with Whale Sharks

We timed this trip so we could be in Mexico during whale shark season. Each year the whale shark, which is the largest of the fish species, begin to arrive from their annual migration to the warm waters of the Mexican-Caribbean Sea near Cancun/Riviera Maya. The gentle fish can grow around 40 feet in length, weigh 11 tons, and we have the chance to swim alongside them and watch them in all their beauty. But beware - there will be a lot of happy tears, this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime-experience.

  • Private boat for GTS trip only

Scuba Diving in the Cenotes

Of course Girls that Scuba couldn't come to the cenotes and not scuba dive them! Give us those tanks, we're going in! We will be scuba diving 2 of Yucatan's best cenotes with a kick-ass female instructor and exploring the parts we couldn't see while freediving.

  • No cavern/cave diving experience needed, however you must be advanced and a confident diver.
  • Scuba equipment included

Freedive Photography

All these beautiful images you've seen so far - alongside the ones on our Instagram - are taken by fellow GTS and our good friend Marianna Tombini. She will be joining us for one full day of photos and fun once we have finished our Level 1 course. On this day we will go to a different cenote and do some training/fun freedives and come back with some amazing pictures just like these

  • Each girl will get there own set of photos shared to a Google Drive
  • Another chance to freedive in a beautiful cenote as well as practise everything you have learnt in your course

Mayan/Mexican Experience

You can't come to Yucatan and not learn about its Mayan routes. We will take a full day to show you around some of the best ruins and outdoor activities this region has to offer starting at Coba Ruins and then onto Punta Laguna where we will go and see wild monkeys, have a Mayan ceremony, do some zip lining, kayaking and lunch. It will be a day full of Mexican fun - and our first look at Mexico outside of the water.

Eco-Retreat

All of this will be happening as we call Harmony Glamping Tulum home for the week. Nestled in between the pristine white beaches of Tulum and the lush Mayan jungle lies Harmony Glamping Hotel. Located in the grounds of Green Beat, an organic permaculture farm in the vibrant town of Tulum, Harmony offers the unique experience of sleeping in one of their magnificent suite bedrooms, or glamping in luxury bell tents surrounded by beautiful gardens, a swimming pool, and the sounds of nature.

Built using eco-friendly materials and technology according to the principles of the green philosophy of glamping, they offer a memorable chic and funky experience for our stay in Tulum.

They use only natural and biodegradable soaps and shampoos, reduce, reuse, and recycle as much as they can and ask you kindly not to bring any plastic bags onto the property. Alongside Harmony, Girls that Scuba also ask you to be mindful on any plastic you bring into the country and will give you some plastic-free packing ideas upon booking.

  • 5 suites available and 4 tents (prices vary)
  • Breakfast included
  • Our theory side of the course will be done in the beautiful grounds of Harmony as well as the pool session before we head to the cenotes for the practical side
